Effects of High Heels – Why Not to Wear High Heels

1.  Achilles Tendonitis -  If you wear heels too often the Achilles tendon(big tendon in the back of the calf) tightens up and becomes shortened which puts a lot of strain on the heel that causes heel pain.

2.  Morton’s Neuroma  -   When wearing high heels (and any narrow toed shoe), your toes are crammed and bunched up.  The pressure of the high heel shoes can pinch the nerves between the toes, leading to pain and numbness which can be extremely painful

3. Metatarsalgia – Prolonged use of heels can lead to pain in the ball of the foot where a heavy callus often form.

4.  Blisters, Bunions and Corns – When those toes are all scrunched together, they will rub together and against the shoe causing painful blisters or bunions

5.  Sprained Ankle-  Well, wearing high heels nearly triples the likelihood of rolling your ankle.  Rolling an ankle can cause you to stretch or tear ligaments and/or tendons, and also producing a break in any of the small or large bones that make up your foot and ankle.

Some of you I will see in  sneakers on tomorrow….however lets face it most of us are still going to wear our high heels no matter what!!!
